Dan Cox
Dan Cox has enjoyed a road less traveled. His ‘University Career’ spanned the professional musical performance education of the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, to an eventual Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science. After a ten year academic career that could easily have concluded with four independent degrees, the sudden certification came as a pleasant surprise to everyone, including Dan. In the interim, however, he accidentally set into motion a uniquely specialized career path.
While studying music in Cincinnati, Dan did what all students do – he worked in restaurants. Cincinnati, however, provided an unusual proving ground for future restaurateurs, chefs, and ‘Food Nerds.’ At the time, Cincinnati was proudly home to more four- and five-star restaurants than any other city in the United States, offering a brilliant education in the business of hospitality and food service.
It would also provide the first taste of management experience with a transfer to Los Angeles, courtesy of the Westin Hotel Company. Tasked with the service of Royalty from around the globe, Cox was hired to reignite the formal dining and in-room dining offerings of the Tower at the Century Plaza. Soon thereafter, Cox would join the Ritz Carlton Corporation, charged with opening duties for the U.S. based luxury properties in Pasadena and Marina del Rey, California. The tag of “opener” would last for years to come.
A stint with California Pizza Kitchen arrived just as the small Southern California mini-chain was purchased by worldwide food conglomerate, PepsiCo. Immediately, transfers back to the East Coast arrived, with opening duties throughout the Washington DC region. Following a successful rise with CPK, Cox was recruited to assist with the openings of multiple DC-area free-standing restaurants.
A return to the warmth of California provided the opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream of writing. With a relocation to the San Francisco bay area, the writing became professional, including serving as technical writer for esteemed LA-based restaurant publicist Joan Luther. As well, the ‘city by the bay’ ignited a passion for food, dining, and the unabashedly talented chefs and service industry professionals that would soon elevate the profession to its current cult status.
Cox partnered to form CRPR, a boutique restaurant and nightlife public relations agency while in San Francisco, soon relocating the business to the more aptly celebrity driven environs of Los Angeles. Following a successful six year partnership, Cox left to form his own unique firm, DAN COX for public relations. Serving Los Angeles and the San Francisco bay area, the firm has committed to a varied client profile ranging from the beloved restaurant and nightclub industries, to a strategically selected group of philanthropic, entertainment, and design related businesses and personalities.
Passionate about his community, Cox has committed his life and business to a significant range of philanthropic activities, groups, and endeavors, including Los Angeles and San Francisco based children’s charities, AIDS service organizations, and food & culture historical organizations. Cox now resides, and is well fed, in the restaurant-rich communities of Santa Monica and San Francisco, California.
Jamie Sammons
Born in rural Kentucky, Jamie Sammons departed for the University of Kentucky with two dreams—to live in a major metropolitan city and travel to exotic lands. After graduating with a degree in Political Science, Jamie relocated to Washington, DC, and quickly discovered that marketing, not politics, was where the real action was found. After nearly 10 years in marketing for Verizon and the Health Insurance Association of America, she moved to San Francisco, California and traded telephones for internet start-ups and dot-coms.
In San Francisco Jamie worked in the areas of technical writing, marketing, and public relations for industry leaders such as XOOM, NBCi, BeautyRiot and Sephora, before setting out on her own to work in the field of market research for advertising, tech, and biotech industries.
Throughout her career, she never lost focus of her second dream, to travel and see the world. She has since visited over 30 countries on 6 continents, which ultimately led to an awakening of her third passion, FOOD!
Without a trust fund to pay her way, she resumed her previous life of restaurant employment. What was meant to simply provide quick cash turned into an education of, and passion for, great food and dining experiences. From diners to fine dining, working with great cooks, chefs and waiters passionate about the quality of the food they create and serve forever changed how she experiences food. From a fried egg sandwich to braised beef cheeks, she learned to appreciate and enjoy the qualities of a great meal and atmosphere. Fortunately, living in San Francisco has provided access to many of the most acclaimed chefs and restaurants in the world, many of whom Jamie is proud to count as friend and mentor.
Jamie now finds herself arriving full-circle. Joining DAN COX for public relations is an exciting opportunity to use her skills as a writer, marketer and public relations expert, with her love of good food to promote the wonderfully restaurant-rich communities of San Francisco and Los Angeles, California.
