Hot off the presses, GQ magazine hit stands yesterday with an “America’s Best” by writer Kevin Sintumuang.  The Edison is described by Sintumuang as “the largest on this list… It is also, in a way, the most impressive – because even when the place is filled to capacity, which is often, its bartenders manage to churn out cocktail classics…Even better, the cocktails come with a show: Regulars arrive in trench coats and aviation goggles like characters in an Alan Moore comic…”

The building which houses The Edison LA, the historic Higgins Building, is NOT the making of Hollywood magic.  The Edison will celebrate the 100th Centennial Anniversary of the Building on 10/10/10, with performances by the March Fourth Marching Band, and all night food and drink specials to commemorate the occasion.   (For details, please visit http://www.edisondowntown.com/).

And, if that weren’t enough Edison news, THIS JUST RELEASED:

Andrew Meieran, the designer and owner of The Edison, has just purchased downtown’s historic Clifton’s Cafeteria.  Located at 7thand Broadway, this enormous space has played a significant role in the history of downtown LA, and has served as a community center for residents and downtown workers for decades.  This announcement arrives only moments after the deal has been inked.  No specific plans for the space have been made at this time.  However, expect Meieran to work his magic, retaining the historic artifacts of this beloved location in the same manner as The Edison, as well as the soon to arrive Edison New York City.

Adds Meieran, “We are excited about the prospect of being involved in the revitalization of Broadway and one of the nation’s most historic eating establishments.  We hope to continue Clifton’s incredible legacy as the cultural, social and architectural landmark in Los Angeles.”
